Choose the Devices tab at the bottom of the screen, press the plus sign (+), choose the kind of device you're setting up, and then adhere to the registration process' directions. Make sure the Alexa app is downloaded in its most recent iteration if you're experiencing problems.

Plug in your Echo Dot

Make sure your new Echo is connected in and powered on if it doesn't show up in this menu. It should soon be accessible in the app. Pick your Echo and begin connecting it with the app after it appears in that selection. The Echo's light ring or bar will flash blue before becoming orange when you enter setup mode. Press and hold the Action button for five seconds if you don't see orange. Alexa will eventually wake up and inform you that it's "now in Setup mode." (You might also need to wait until the light changes from yellow to blue by holding down the volume and microphone buttons for up to 20 seconds to put it in setup mode.)
